I got some clubby drafts lying around.
Some will end up as being melodic psy, others as club (I want to produce it actually , just never had the chance to).

i think it's a matter of taste
it is just how you used to build a track
of course it all starts as yotopia said from your mind - it is what I want to do???

you can start from groove, from bass, from mels ...

my advice would be to make a ruff sketch and when you have it pretty much laid out you can start the detail mixing and add things, fill gaps, make fills and thrils, correct build ups and fine tune the baseline and kick so it fits the mix.

if you want some basic pop arrangement ideas that also could be implemented to other music styles, check out: http://www.soundonsound.com/search?url=%2Fsearch&Section=8&Subject=1&session=f34f54406b00df4556a704c68d80cf95 or the main page http://www.soundonsound.com/articles/Technique.php

True with the progressive thing, I think,

Me and my friends who do tunes all think that 8 bars is a good length of time to leave things "as they are" before you add or remove an element, even if it is something really small like a quiet hihat or a spot percussion effect.
This is a good rule of thumb, I think, for leaving youself enough space for a groove to develop in the listeners' head.

It's also really easy to add too much, and also to be too self critical. You can get sick of tunes you are working on and be very tempted to change something that works, but resist! - Remember you'll get sick of *anything* if you listen to it 100 times in a day.

GOod luck!
