Ive just found out well actually like about a month ago that well i dont know how to explain it but ill do my best.....
ok so before you even begin to start a song you lay out some drums and then just tap out a rhytm with one key it does not necessarily have to be a original rhythm it could be the one from your most favorite song...then after this you actually move the keys around to geta a melody going and voula you have melody with rhythm...seems to be working out pretty good and it actually makes leads come to life

I find that using an arpeggiator and automating the shit out it (on/off, rate, sync/time, etc) I can get all sorts of rhythms I would never have thought of. Also if whatever software you are using has a 'scale' MIDI effect (Ableton does, idk about other stuff), I find I can get some pretty neat stuff using the arpeggiator followed by the 'scale' MIDI effect, followed by whatever synth.

heehe ya half my tracks are oasis chord progressions... nah kidding, but yah, maybe here and there, sometimes by mistake.
hahahaha, nothing wrong with that though. if i'm bored and feeling uninspired, i might pick the chord progression of whatever random tune i'm listening to - say, scando death metal or southern bluegrass - and make a loop out of the chord progression. if i like it with a bassline, maybe i'll use it for a song.
