control a VST with matrix?
i think thats impossible!
you might want to try the MIDI step sequencer in Cubase, maybe the closest thing you will get. |

The Stepsequencer is a MIDI-effect. You can find it as insert effect on your midi-channels in cubase.
btw: You can not assign anything from reason, to control things in Cubase - and you can not send audio signals from cubase to f.x. a FX-engine in reason. Reason only have outputs (2.5, i dont know anything about the 3.0 version of reason) |

im not sure! I never use StepDesigner before.
I resigned myself to never use Matrix-style sequencing once I moved to Cubase.
If you learn a way to do that please let us know! |

Actually I just played with StepDesigner. You can automate it!
Turn on "R" and "W" in your MIDI channel, then hit Record. Change the patterns. Then turn off "W". Go back to the main Project page and open menu on your MIDI track, select "Show Used Automation". A track should appear with Pattern automation!

if you are hooked on the matrix then you could always just make it with the subtractor in reason and export it as a midi file and bring that in to cubase and route it to whatever vst you want but id advise you to just get used to the tools cubase has to offer then youll forget all about the matrix |

from examples ive heard without a matrix style sequencer you tend to get less repetitive results. it comes more like a song rather than a bunch of loops put together you only get 32 steps with the matrix anyway |

that depends on how you vary you patterns of course
if you make a loop of two or three 8 step patterns, it will sound much better that to repeat one loop |

yes there are some tricks you can do fast with a Matrix that will take u a long time to do with a sequencer:
- you can shorten/lengthen notes and speed with one knob
- change between 32 patterns with 2 buttons
- use for 'automation' instead of notes
- change note values
- change note on/off
and record changes while u do it!
of course its very limited, but it is a unique creative tool, and to me is more fun than sequencer |

if you are talking about exporting this step secuencer to the track:
- make a vew patterns
- drag the time indicator( the big black bar that scrolls) to the point where u want to insert a pattern.
-now, on the midi pannel of the instrument (the uppert left) press the (write auto)
- press record
i found it a little to hard to press the different patterns while playing, so i just stop it, drag the locator to the correct point, and insert a pattern.
It's the absolute best thing to make "psy"squeek patterns |
