Holy shit, the Goa Gil party was everything I imagined it to be and then some. Then some more, and a lot more again after that. It was unfukinbelievable! Id have to say that was THE craziest trance party of my life. I have never had such an intense eight hours in my life. The people were going so crazy, everyone was tripping hard. The whole time the sounds were gobbling everyone up, at some points it wasn't even music coming out those speakers, only strange sounds. I was completely tranced, dancing in ways Ive never danced before. He played the most insane fuckin set- and ended it with Quasars Give Peace a Chance. Then the lights came on, and people were like, what the fuck just happened to us? Trying to play it off like we were all normal even tho eeeeeveryone was trippin hard, and trying to get ready to go home. Then suddenly he puts on another track, and the people went CRAZY. It was the most insane dancefloor I have ever witnessed to that point! The next ten minutes was so great, then it was over again. So people were like, okay, I am flying thru a different dimension, and we want more! So people started clapping and clapping and it wouldnt stop, so he put on another track and this time people went absolutley BONKERS. I have NEVER seen anything like it, everyone dancing SO HARD in their own complete trance. The last part was so intense, it seemed like the whole night was building up to that point. THIS was true psychedlic music, this was REAL trance. After that everyone was like, Nik, you were right about this guy, he IS fuckin crazy! (I was hyping it up a bit Everyone I talked to said they have not been in such a trance for a LONG time. It was so unbelievable, I couldnt stop talkin about it forever. Those sounds are still in my head! I have never heard such crazy music (even though I have many times, but for some reason it gets crazier and crazier for me) it really is made for people that are completely out of their minds.
After hearing so much fluff here in this town, it was quite nice to hear some REALLY PSYCHEDELIC trance. The music was so hard, so deep, so evil, at times I didnt even know what the hell was going on. No one can put it down like Gil, no one in the world can get you in such a trance. He IS the master, no one can do what he does.
And a HUGE thank you to Chikyu-ya, who brought out the best trance music Tokyo has witnessed in a long time. It definitely blew away all those commercial parties that the huge promoters throw. That sound is too commercial, not psychedelic enough. The true trancers who go love experience the music were all there, and we will never be fooled by the BS that flows thru this town! No amount of money can put together a party that had the vibe that Differ did that Saturday night. That takes REAL trance people who see the Light, not there to stand on top of the speakers like an idiot and push people around on the dancefloor when they are walking thru because they lack respect for the other people. When a party like the one on Saturday night comes around, we will always be there, and yes I hope that the big groups keep throwing parties on the same night and attract all the idiots, so that we can have a great time without that shit. Yes some of those people unfortunately stumbled into the party, but our energy was too great and the few of them that did stumble into the party were just drowned under a sea of psychedelia. It was the greatest party I have ever witnessed in Tokyo, thank you to all the people who showed up and all the organizers. I will see you guys again soon!

seems like you had a nice night. Chikuuya brings really funky parties sometimes. I remember the first time they brought the whole russian team about 2 years ago, parasense etc. I think i experienced the same thing.
i missed goa gil, i visited the arcadia party due to some business reasons, but the party over here was more psychedelic than i expected it to be.
hope to see more good parties coming up.

I dont quite think Gil is a GOOD DJ . i mean he's good energy maybe when he stands behind a console ..... Like i feel HAATI BABA wud make a better stand if his track selection was tht of GIL's1!
Gil's track selection is purely the best but he's quite the FADE IN - FADE OUT DJ if u know wot i mean but never da less........ it mustve ROCKED !!

Man I dont know how many times I have had to say this- you say he is the -'fade in fade out' dj which equals 'hes not a GOOD DJ?!'
I have no other alternatives but to assume that you think beatmatching is the majority of what a DJ's skills consist of. There are SO MANY OTHER ASPECTS!
In Gil's case especially, beatmatching is a small part of what a DJ is. How many DJs in the world can do what he does? NO ONE.
Beatmatching is just a negligible detail of the masterful performance he puts on. That is too micro, his message is more macro than any one out there. And let me ask you, is there anyone in the world who can beatmatch a 24 hour set?
Besides he does beatmatch, what a terrible assumption you have. Try listening to his mix cd.
HE IS THE BEST DJ IN THE WORLD. Its not by luck that he gets more respect than any other DJ in the world.
Dude, you just don't get it.

Spliffnik, I had a feeling you'd send in a report like that.... So sad I had to miss it. Perhaps I'll dream myself over to Goa someday and stumble across his party on a beach....

I agree that beat-matching doesn't always matter. If a DJ truly connects with the crowd, I don't care how he does it.

And yes, it doesn't take much insight to see that the Tokyo trance scene is brimming with BS. Glad to hear your night was different from the usual. Nice one, Chikyuya!

thats a pretty strong opinion. Goa Gill is great for sure, but best? define best? why is best? how is best compared to say Ray Castle, Simon Posford and Tsuyoshi Suzuki? perhaps one of best?

FSE- yes that is a strong opinion but I only say this because I have NEVER experienced anything like a set by Gil.
His performance, the sounds, and the message he communicates is unlike any other DJ in the world.
I guess the 'best' depends on your definition of what a good DJ is. But for me, I have my own definition and for me he fits this perfectly.
I love his sound because it is much more psychedlic than say Simon Posford, who is no doubt an absolute musical genius. And DEFINITELY more psychedelic than Tsuyoshi!!
So OK, maybe I should clarify myself and say he is the best Psychedelic trance DJ in the world.
His music allows me to enter worlds that no other DJ can take me to. It definitely helps when he plays 24 hour sets. Neurologists have said many times that a repetitive drumming sound over a long period of time allows the brain to enter a different state of consciousness, and indigenous tribes have been doing this for thousands of years, all over the world.
And Gil knows how to fuck with your brain like no one else! The morning sounds he puts on are unlike any other sounds I have ever heard. Sometimes I catch him checking the dancefloor when the sounds change, to see how it trips people out. And whe he does this, he has this mischievious smile, knowing that he is blowing people away! I love that! It seems like he is this mad scientist and we are his test subjects.
But most of all, I think he is the best at communicating the message of spirituality that is embodied in trance music. Many DJs and artists out there carry none of this. Many do it for fun, for money, for whatever else. But Gil plays his sets to spread a message- one that I identify with strongly. He is on a mission! And I love him for that!
His 'party' is beyond just dancing, it is beyond just enjoying music. It strives to communicate to all that with a higher state of consciousness, we can all learn to see things we normally cannot see, Truths like the fact we are all from one source, all connected to each other. We must not be living alone, or working against each other. We must learn to all work together and love each other, and develop a stronger sense of compassion. This cannot be more evident that at the dancefloor at a GIl 'party'. I have seen some amazing things happen there, where EVERY single person was completely connected to each other and in a deep trance. It was one of the trippiest things I have ever seen, every single person dancing with each other, yet dancing differently. It was not like everyone was trying to mimic each other, but more like there was a invisible thread that connected every person there, and you could see this! The entire dancefloor was like this pulsating blob, and when the music changed the whole blob wuld start pulsating differently. It was incredible! My friends and I still talk about this.
I dont know what I can say, other than that I love his parties more than anyone out there. It goes beyond trance- for me it is about something bigger. I connect with his message on many levels. I can say that a Gil party is not a 'party'- it is an experience. He is not a DJ, but more of a Shaman.
For me, psychedelic trance is about much more than music, and he puts on the most spiritually oriented dance experience in the world.
You may have your own defintions of what a good Dj is, so your favorite DJ may well be someone else. I am not trying to convince you otherwise, I just hope that what I wrote can at least help you see my viewpoint.

goa gil is surely one of the most important people for psychedelic. I think, he is one of the dj shamans that can communicate what he wants to say to the crowd.
