Hi guys

How do you guys set your reverb sends?

I use most often 4 different ones. And I only use lexicons.

1. Large hall for leads and various synth shots around 2.4 sec and some predelay around 20 ms. So it will be pushed more into the back.

2. Medium hall or space for background with some predelay around 10-20 ms.

3. Medium hall around 1.5 sec for thickening timbres with no predelay.

4. Small room around 0.8 sec for the drums and for some dryer sounding synth shots. with predelay from 5 to 20 ms.

I am still learning and need some good insights how you guys do it and what you think of my reverb settings would be highly appriciated and am I on the right track here ?

i use 2 reverbs and 2 chorus type sounds

one reverb that gives me brightness to the sound,
other reverb is a typical hall one, a rich one with a detailed long and spaced hall sound, that i may use in tipical effects, pads or drones on the track...

chorus, one is to turn the sound of the chanels more phat the other one is to behave and give an effect like detuning the sound...

im using ArtsAcousticReverb and SoundToys 'echoboy' for chorus

in psy production i like to use a long verb that creates the same kinda feeling as if you are hearing the track in the forest.

also i have a verb for wetting drums and percs.

i sometimes have smaller verb for special effects like putting the sound into a small room near that next sound.

from time to time i add other stuff, to taste.

sure u need to have dry signals also, otherwise everything may sound too far, and u may end up with muddy mix.

however there are other situations. for example, if i mix acoustic band recorded dry in a studio, i have only one verb that emulates a nice sounding room and i place all instruments in different spots of this room with pan, volume and dry/wet ratio of the verbed signal. this way the mix sounds natural, which won't happen if you create different verbs for each instrument.

somehow this rule corresponds with trance also, i guess, but only to some extent.

I use reverb when I want it - I don't 'as a rule' put reverb on anything.

there are no rules, true, but over the years and years of production you could probably notice tendencies

Hehe well that's true.

My point was more along the line of thinking that if the op has multiple different reverbs and uses for them and understands the reasons why they work,..then they are definitely on the right track            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

when i see people askin advices bout reverb.. i always point a tip that zork once have put here in isratrance... that u can keep it as a template project.... so when u wish to use reverb ...u already have the reverbs set in ur send channel...

it consist of 3 reverbns in 3 different send channel...

with the settings to emule sounds of front, sounds of middle and sounds coming from further..

Sounds in the front:

-No Pre Delay
-Alot Early refections
-maybe even boost highs in reverb channel
-mid panning

Sounds in the middle:

-short to mid pre delay
-less early reflections
-bigger reverbtail
-lowpass eq in reverb channel
-middle panning

Sounds in the back:

-mid to long pre delay
-almost no early reflections
-even bigger reverb tail
-more lowpass eq in the channel
-widest panning

but then i added another reverb more or less with the settings from the reverb of the FRONT which i call TIGHT VERB ....which i use for drums...

but i wouldnt get stuck only on those 4.

lets say u want to do a SPECIAL FX with reverbs... then u could use in the INSERT channel of the sound u wish ....

buddy, i originally come from ur school of thought. But lately, after spending hours recorign live bands and vocalists , iv realized that room reverb is actually present in all the sounds recorded via mic.

Where as vsts just modulate the waves, even if u record it str8 its just a wav signal . that saying , it really depends upon wat u want to sound to sound like.

also i use reverbs as mentioned above by someone , use it for sound designing and to make it fit in the mix.

use it as an engineer and use it as a producer , different uses , different results.

whats reverb? what is it good for? make space? Sounds like a alien effect, So i can send my sounds to space?
I need to investigate this.

Can my sounds meet aliens in space also?

Zork - thanks I hope i wont get lost

I have a FM radio sending and receiving signals to and from outer space. Its getting pretty creepy, yesterday i sent out a psytrance track i made and what i received was this message! "Send more trance or we will kill you, Dont mess with Addicted Aliens"

Today i got this message " We want heavier bass and kick"

Whatever you guys do dont feed the aliens with psytrance, they become totally nutters and crave more and more, Now i have to be up 24/7 and transmit psytrance on a very odd frequency. I hope they wont come and get me and make me a slave, like dj on their insane aliens parties...
