i dont like reverb that much heheh i use delays more hehe, maybe some reverbs on snares and elements in a track that u want in the back of the mix background beds and atmosphere, but quite honestly i just don't use much reverb it muddies the mix when used excessively, less is more and with great synths like nords and the evolver most of the time u wanna da dry signal... im a phaser n delay freek now on guitars i love reverbs and snares specially the 80's snares with tons of reverb and a gate now thats good use of reverb a la phil collins style cheers... also i love filter modulation
anyhow thanks for the pdf mate! |

track with no reverb is like falafel with no tahini.

nope i have great reverbs, but quite honestly i just don't use as much as everyone else, everyone works different and have they're spices... i do use em here and there but not as much i guess as you and others on here i use reverbs mainly on live instruments like piano, guitars, orchestra instruments and pads but not on extremes like every track on the mix, for me delays are king n phasers queen at times instead of a reverb i'll use chorus... for reverbs i use sonnox and sir and at times arts acoustic or waves, so i do have good reverbs and know how to use em but to my personal taste in mixes im just not to crazy on reverbs, we all have different formulas i use drench my mixes with reverbs now days i use just a pinch here and there then use filters, distortion, flangers, phasers, pitch shifter's etc. and dry signals works for me and i've gotten good results so don't think im knockn folks who use reverbs i also do lots of programming like leaving a nice release that gives an impression of reverbs which is how lots of old school were programmed since they didn't come with reverbs everyone works different but to state i ain't got good reverbs is jumping the gun LOL and i do know how to use em heck i love the old skool 80's snares drenched in reverbs and slapped on a gate, so i do admit using em hehe but just not on everything very little, and again less is more u gotta admit that too much reverb causes muddy mixes mate, a pinch does wonders and other epic pads drenched in full effect its great but i stay away from it as much as possible and my mixes translate better to eaches own, try a chorus next time instead or play with the release a bit u might get what ur looking for and get ya mix cleaner just some advice and perhaps u can apply it to ur way of working who knows u just might like it better but do whatever tickles ur pickle cheers mate!!!
folks go crazy on reverbs and compression my advice is only use it if it needs it... in the end trust ya ears if it needs it throw itin but moderately, or im afraid u'll be in muddy mix city... |

Not to stomp you down but I'm pretty sure the resources given in the very first post of this thread cover your points. Also, I don't see a chorus, distortion, filter, phaser or pitch shift as a replacement for a reverb. Extended release or a delay with appropriate settings seem quite possible though.. As for muddy mix city.. If you read the resources given in the first thread you may have a decent idea of how to use reverb without destroying a mix, yeah?
Thanks for the resources gutter. |

i download but haven't taken the time to reads it and i never suggested that phasers, distortion and filters etc are a replacement... long releases and what not could be without muddin things up hehe, my first post stated thanksfor the info, i know how to use em reverbs haha but its my own personal way of working and i try to use other efx on mixes, yeh delays n reverbs are the bread n butter of effects im just trying to encourage others to be more experimental and not to forget the other cool efx outthere, i run reverds on efx sends mate n on other tracks if i want a different efx i use a single reverb on that track which is how everyone uses em LOL come on reverbs are simple tools just like compressors dont know why people break there heads with em if u got any cool n different ways to use reverbs then speak up im always up to learn new tricks people may have, i stated other ways to get and reverb like efx that wont really muddy a mix n im sure newbies might appreciate that and perhaps others more experience on here aswell who perhaps didnt know but dont come at me like dont know jack LOL im showing other ways and sharing my ideas n formulas mate, but anyways b4 shit here gets carried away and any misunderstanding rise u have a great day, god bless, bye |
