Is it better to put the same reverb on all channels?
I've been thinking avout it and I was wandering
will the mix sound more natural with the same reverb. Of course each channel has different
amount of the reverb.
Thanx

usually 2 reverbs are used. one with a long tail and 1 with a chamber setting.
long reverb for leads, spacy things, parts of percussion like crash
chamber for drums, special fx and percussive elements
I usually end up with more than 2, special effects like sidechaining the reverb with the source and so on won't work on a sendchannel.
but remember, don't take this as a rule.
there are plate reverbs, reverse reverbs...
and there's this reverb www.tank-fx.com

It should depend on the sound and what you want out of the overall production. If you want certain sounds to seem like they're in the same ambient "space", use the same reverb.
Not all reverb sounds work well with all source sounds. A verb that sounds nice on a pad may get "pingy" if you put a drum into it, depending on the settings. |

to conserve resources on your computer, you should not insert a reverb on each track...
better to do an effect channel and then send the signal of the track or tracks you want reverberated to that FX channel...
two things to benefit from...reverb is room simulation. so, if you send mulitple tracks to the same reverb, it gives the impression the tracks are all in the same room and you conserve resources...
does that mean you shouldn't insert on each track ever? No, in the end it is up to you..
I personally have found better results with the FX channel way of doing it..
in pro studios, inserts on idividual tracks are dynamics processors (eq, compression, gate, etc) and effects processors (time based, like reverb, delay, flange, phase) are used to send multiple tracks to the same unit, or plug in....
In the end, if it sounds good, go with it.
assumption is the mother of all fuckups. |

Using reverb as an insert changes too much the original sound.
But it all depends on the desired effect.

Thats what I had in my mind when I asked the question. Give all the instruments the same reverb
in different amount, like this the feeling like it
was all recorded in the same room...

Different instruments, different synths, different drums, different reverb units. There are some really crappy ones and some really nice ones. For example the FL reverb 1, not 2 is great on a send channel for long spacey reverbs. However I wouldnt use it on a saxophone.
