Because if you shut down the midi volume, it just "kills" the sound coming out the vst, but the reverb in insert continue it's sound because the audio volume fader associated with the vst is not shutted down !
So automate the Volume fader of the vst and not the fader of the midi track.
And one more thing, insert #7 and #8 are post fader so if youre reverb is at #7-8, then shutting down the volume fader will not kill the reverb tail. |

when you have a softsynth with an internal reverb and you didnt automate the reverb via midi then the softsynth will play the reverb as long as its programmed in the patch-settings. if you really want to do it via midi ( i think bouncing into audio or channel volume down is the saver way) than you have to automate the midi-device dry-wet to 100% dry to were you want to stop the reverb. your softsynth get the information at the beginning of the not, how long and loud (velocity). you cannot use 2 velocitys for 1 midi-note. |

sorry i missed that you are using an insert reverb. xoC got the right answer. i just got curiouse and tried it with albino 2 and vanguard with the onboard-reverb and delay and could not cut off the reverbtail with the midi-volume (cc7), not even with the volume-button on the synth (vanguard), you have to use the channel volume on the mixer. |

a way more advanced and elegant solution COULD be a midi triggered gate on the reverb (or delay or whatever you want to mute)... draw a note aslong as the sequence is playing and stop the note when the last note of your sequence happened... adjust the release of the gate to taste and voila... there's your tail tamed

midi gater
or

create a new midi track, route it to the gate and draw the note...

Make sure in your template project, or the new ones you create, that one of the first things you do is go to the mixer and click the hide midi channels button on the far left.
