Yes, sometimes I do.
I have made 3 tracks with the same kick and bass just re did the midi / changed up my bass line but same sounds and eqed almost the same.
1 possitive in doing this is it makes it very hard to tell when your mixing. Those tracks just melt into eachother.
It is very common, but I do agree that you should only do this when you have a real good grasp on what your doing and know that those elements are worth keeping. Save your own presets and eventualy you will know just what you want it to sound like.

After getting a good combination of kick and bass it's easy to make variations.
I think it's cool to reuse any of the elements, if they sound good.
Just listen AKD, the album Progressing.
It seems always the same kick...

It might sound a little bit too much, but on certain genres it creates a union flow between the tracks. |

Depends what you mean by same kick and bass.
I tend to sample my bass over a suitable set of notes. If I then change midi pattern, root note of the track, eq a bit differently and lastly change the kick, it will sound very different while still somehow retaining the signature sound that comes from that bass (which is the same). I actually find this a very nice way to make various combos that blend well together, as others have pointed out.
But to answer the question, not the exact same combo, no. Or maybe I should say not yet |

actualy seems many times i might start with different kick and get plus minus the same results.. boosting and cutting almost everytime the same spots.. specialy kick wise.. and yeah saving presets but just as starting point not just drop n play (tho thats allright too i supose if your melodies are really extra great and your presets are original sounds of yours to begin with)

I think there are lots of artists that work hard to find their lead ..you have a good example like "Vibe Tribe" , " Perplex", "Species", "Switch" etc...
I think you should create some leads and riffs and pads and save them for your presets. After when ppl will hear your sound they will imediatly associate to your project.
In the bass and kick issue...I think is nice to evolve in some matters, but i also think is nice to try to keep your own bassline style, because bass defines a track, and if you try build a certain style that caracterizes your music , that will keep your tracks similiar, that doesnt meen they will sound the same. The process of arrange and musicality can give a new perspective for your tracks.

I may of put myself into this column, but I've been producing for 4 years and still haven't made a kick I like enough to use again. |

Never. Always start from scratch in creating every sound.
But kicks are kinda limited to the possibility of their sound, so most are bound to sound similar.

If we're talking about kicks, I wouldn't say that the 'best' artists, as you describe them, have unique kicks. Actually alot of the kicks most artists use I've heard alot of times already.
In my opinion, the sound of the kick ain't as important as the drive of the kick and how it holds the bassline together, cuz the kick might sound very very good and not get well with the other sounds and it might sound bad on its own, but get very well with the bass/perc.
It's mostly a matter of taste.

I hear that. When I first started out I was always trying to make weird and interesting kicks. I came to the conclusion that the best ones for the job are snappy and simple. I used to love the rubbery sound of some older kicks, but actually in my own productions I'd much prefer clicks to squeaks. Depending on the speed if the track and everything else, you can get away with some weirdness sometimes though |
