so i went to see the smashing pumpkins in concert a few days ago. their albums "siamese dreams", "mellon collie and the infinite sadness" and "adore" are some of the finest works of alternative rock music i know of. i've also got their new one, "zeitgeist" which was released roughly 6 years after their split-up.
before reanimating the band, corgan said that he "reminisced the old times and wanted his band, his dream, back." what do you think of this? is it possible to re-start a band which was highly acclaimed in their past and continue it in the same spirit, as corgan wanted to?
i did enjoy the concert a lot...a many times in the past, when listening to "tonight, tonight", "today" or "porceline of the vast oceans", i wished to kick myself in the very yarbles for not having seen any of their shows when they were still active. yet i felt very uneasy the whole evening, a feeling i can't explain really...it appeared as though that was just billy corgan on stage, playing old hits HE wrote with some old friends, who didn't want to be his anymore (besides for jimmy chamberlin on drums). it somewhat felt as roger waters playing the old pink floyd material. the gig was technically flawless, ginger reyes on bass is really cute and schroeder is a great guitarist...but something was missing...of course.
so what are your thoughts? any other examples?
