The previous Retro compilation came to mark 10 years of Israeli trance music, and it did exactly that. It came just at the right moment when Israeli trance celebrated, give or take, 10 years since it broke into world-wide recognition. Even so, as with every musical scene, Israeli trance music is fixated on the self awared attempts to reincarnate the past. This fixation leads to many unoriginal Albums, which take the past’s hits, wrap them up in a shiny new jacket, and hope for the best. In some cases, you get some really good compilations (the legendary UFS and Israliens comps), but in many cases than most, you get a collection of mashed and hashed music, chosen with a light-head and mixed absent mindedly.
The following Retro compilation, hailing out of Phonokol, is a classic example how you Don’t do a sequel.
The first compilation’s success was manifest in it’s intricate, almost fastidious attention to details – the track’s list and choice, arrangement, design of the sleeve and jacket and the impressive booklet; and the outcome was fitting – a trance compilation truly worthy, which represented the past 10 years of Israeli trance.
Vol.2, however, may have the same look and feel at first sight, but that’s about where the resemblance end. The sleeve is designed as a single page, folded in 3 sections, with barely legible text, no history of the artist, track or such as was in the previous compilation.
Zoo-b, DJ Extrodinaire of USTA fame and Krembo record, was chosen to mix one CD, and Avi Nissim, of Astral Projection Pride, mixed the the other. The outcome, however, is quite irritating. The beat-match is poor, and you can sometimes hear where the pitch and jog options were used, sloppy and unprofessional.
As for the tracklist – it is the choice of the compilers and DJ, so i won’t comment on that. But it seems as though this compilation is trying to capitalize on it’s older brother’s success (Which marked a decade), whereas this one marks about 11 years? Soon, a bar mitzva...

Np dude, it's good practice for me to translate my own words. and yes, i took a rather hard approach towards it.
Wako, i think that the tracklist is irrelevent in this case. spare some tracks, it's pretty much worthless without a decent mix.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. We See Things As We Are" -Ancient Chinese Proverb
