Hi all.
I've got a whole heap of various lectures by terence mckenna and others and they contain some killer samples, but, the recording of them is terrible, like heaps of hiss and crackle and the rest. So, i was wondering what the best method is to restore them to the best quality possible and what tools would be needed for this process.

Sweet. Cheers guys.
So a bit of EQ to remove some unwanted frequencies would be good to hey?
Now to my next issue. Im an Ableton slave, an i got waves platinum, so when i go to install it like i install all my other plugins i use, it doesnt show up in Ableton with all my other plugins. Is there a compatibility issue with it or am i just doing it wrong?
Thanks |

I have the same problem in ableton. Does ableton only read dx or something?

Im not to sure...But i just had a fiddle around installing waves to use in ableton and i got it going. You have to make sure that you install the wave shell vst folder into the folder that ableton uses for plugins. This wave shell folder contains the dll. file that runs all the waves plugins. |

I´ve never used Izotope RX, but I want to after I saw the promotional video from them. For me, a Standalone program for removing "noises/clicks/background" is better than vst/dx. (as I don´t need a real time noise remover)
And also RX looks like a complete suite for restoring any kind of material!!! And also, imho, seems to be even easier than Waves stuff for getting a great result.

DrUiWeIrD.
It goes like this:
1. try to use tools (that are usually considered as mastering or remastering tools) like De(or X)-click, de-noise, de-hiss etc.
I would recommend not to use EQ until you've finished with the other processes. There are few more interesting tools (SoundSoap is once of them) which sample the the noise (couple of seconds is usually enough) and then go through the files and removing that sampled noise - very neat though not always as accurate as you want it to be.
2. Waves work in their own format (or DirectX, not entirely sure) and use wrappers to translate is to VST/RTAS/AU - like you said, you need to make sure the right file (usually called WaveShell) is the the plugins folder of the application you're using.
