Resampling or not

I was just wondering how you guys were handling your basses and other sounds. I ve got a bassline loop that is created with a Virus TI and running on Cubase Sx 3 but the problem is its sounds realy dull. How do you guys usually handle it? Bounce it back to an audio track and lift it up with varius VST plugins to give that extra energie?
This is same with other sounds like leads and all.

Thanks in advance,

plenty do resample, note by note - their arguement is that the synth's envelopes vary with each note, so by sampling you get the note you're after.

i tend to use v station for bass, and don't resample - i've not found it necessary. when i do use hardware to create parts i do bounce them to audio once i'm happy with the automation and stuff. i don't resample individual notes though.

i do try to get the bass as good as possible from the synth but invariably apply some eq and compression - it just sounds better. i tend to do this after i've completed the draft arrangement, as often the bass needs slight adjustment to sound tight and to fit with the other sounds.

SecretHero,

i think you should work as much as possible on your bassline (sound-design wise, on your synth), such that it sounds good by itself already. bouncing the whole bassline is a good idea if you want to correct MIDI timing problems (small deviations from a rigid musical grid), this can help the bassline much. also, this way you can apply EQ to make the bassline sit better in the mix, especially with the kick. if you got a sound interface with many inputs, you don't necessarily need to bounce though, only if you want to correct timing.

hope this helped,

Don't forgot that the TI has two usb outs". I like to put everything except my bass on USB out 1 and the bass on 2. Then apply eq's compressor or whatever on the synth and not on a sample.           Work like you don't need the money.

well, i whould highlly recomended to use EQ on the bass line, defentlly Low Pass Filter,
to avoid any Combination Tones,Beats,or Masking.
