best way is just to learn things for yourself, i find
safe wya of macthing the tempo? i assume your gonna cut up samples of the original track, and insert it in your mix ok, well you could try searching on the net for info on it, find its exact tempo
or, u could go in to an audio editing program, select, say, a 4 bar section of the track, and measure the time from the exact beginning of the very first beat, to the exact end of the last beat then divide the nyumber of beats you have selected (here, 16 beats, if its in four four time signature). then multiply by 60- this gives you the tempo in BPM |

maybe an easier way will be to cut a 4 bar section and take it through Acid for bmp matching, there is also an option to open the whole track in acid and just set a loop section and render the loop section, which can work sometimes, depending on the beat of track you want to sample..... |
