Does anyone here knows what is the difference between a remix and an edit??? I keep seeing on releases stuff like: (Sonica Edit) or (Perplex Edit).... Since we are here on the producers' board, i'm asking you guys... editing is a well defined simple task of removing or adding a tracks existing audio data, maybe adding sum simple fx.
remixing can involve rearranging, adding pieces or changing leads. infact Ive heard unrecognizeable remixes with the same track name.
Remixing is more an art, and editing more a technical task.

exactly, remixing is composing a new song based on the original. editing is changing the original song... most of the times with a mixer (that's why you hear in edits, sometimes, those filters that are so DJ like) or with an audio editor... but still it is the same song.

I often make edits of tracks to remove vocals that i dont like or extend sections that i wished went for longer.

a handy tip.
open the track as a .wav in cubase, set to same tempo and then use the quantise scissors to cut and re-arrange as much as you like...keeps it all locked to the same tempo.

if your going to be adding sounds i would recommend putting a limiter on the master out that brickwalls at -.1 but doesnt actually squash any sound.

another cool thing to do is a mash together where you get two tracks with the same key and bpm and make them breed can give a really interesting edge to your dj sets.

have a nice day
