Long long ago, I used to really love Platipus Records. As a teenager learning the ropes of DJing and needing some entry level trance to practice with, Platipus was second to none. The music was fresh, honest, uplifting, and acid. It was good. And the simplest I could find in 1995 with any heart.
Over time, they changed. Now, I don't think I could really tolerate what they have become. But at one point in time (95-98) they were awesome.
Last night, I was listening to a couple of 12"s from my stack and decided to hit record.
Here is what I made.
It is a bit messy at points, but I haven't really listened to –nor absorbed– these tracks in ages. So the rust is natural. I don't think it is too distracting though.
If you love the old Platipus sound, here you go.
If you hated it, maybe you should skip this one.

This stuff really makes me a bit somber for what became of them. I am grateful that they managed to last and continue to release music, while Flying Rhino, Dragonfly, TIP, and others have disappeared, but it is still sad. The new Platipus is not really Platipus. It is just a way to pay rent. And there is nothing wrong with that. And it will never detract from the old.
