Out of topic - Has anyone own an midi guitar, and feedback would be greatly appreciated i been interested in getting one. wonder if it be worth it to come up with different riffs that i wouldn't come up with on the piano.

Yep, i have a Roland GR-30 guitar synth in combination with a GK-2 pickup on my guitar. It has MIDI out, and it's a fun thing to play around with, but i hardly ever use it because of its latency. The philosophy behind buying the thing was the same as yours: you can use your guitar skills to play a synth and come up with other riffs. However, guitar skills are hardly usable if there's an enormous latency, which also differs between various notes. There are a lot of people who are really happy with these things and maybe i installed my pickup a little too far from the guitar bridge, because it didn't fit between the bridge and the first pickup, but in my experience it isn't nearly as good as i imagined. |

Boobytrip, could it be your model that perhaps has that latency or do they all have that sluggish respondse?
Dam im kinda disappointed, there goes all my ideas.
I guess ima have to do some deep research on the guitar midi, Im sure some are better than others like in any other electronic equipment. How much latency would you say yours had? was it that bad to get some melodies out of it, I been hesitating to jump for it for bout 2 yrs now.
Any more guys up in the forum with midi guitar? |

JP-8000! a killer synth for the day with all the knobs and sliders, I was in heaven
but then it got stolen by some thugs in milwaukee who ended up fencing it for a fraction of the price.. fortunately they were caught, and since a gun was involved got some time
never saw the synth again though :-(
Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

I think problem mainly stems from current methods of note-to-midi conversion, because you need at least one (maybe half a ?) period of a sine wave to determine it's pitch. Since lower notes have lower frequencies, their MIDI tracking takes longer. So i don't think that my hardware model is the main reason for the latency. |

we use a guitar synth for, like, everything.
my partner does, anyway. I just profit from the awesome chord progressions he comes up with! |
