Hi guys,
I would love some help with recreating the bassline from Kruger and Coyle's 2004 track "The Witness" (Randy Expansion Mix).
You can have a listen here:
This was huuuuuge for me back in 2004 when it came out, and now I'm getting into production I'd love to finally get a sound similar to this.
I've got the kick sorted, but I'd love some help working out the bass pattern. It seems as though it blends superbly with a low end melodic element and I just cant seem to get the right sound.
Thanks

I don't know the artist or their working methods, so I'm only guessing.
There is layering of timbres which create the main groove of the tune starting with 2, going to 3 parts+ that makes progressive layers that build up.
You can get these sounds with most synths/samplers, but the one id go to If I was to recreate this would be sylenth. the first part of the track sounds like a housey stab/chord with the cutoff really low, and a another part, most probably a sawtooth bass, again with cutoff almost closed, mixed in lower which mixes in with the kick to give the bounce. That's giving you the bottom end. lots of these type of sounds in most synths, after the breakdown, a 303 type patch with distortion/fuzz etc playing the same pattern as the stab. as the trsck progresses the 303 filter opens up.
In your DAW, loop a midi part for one bar or so, play some notes along with the track, find the root note , hit record and tap out trying to match the bass pattern, then use that pattern to trigger 3 synth parts and play around with filter cut offs.
I may be way off but you might get your own original tune out of it, either way
