There is a difference here I believe, but I can't quite point my finger at it. A remix can be done by the artist of the track or anybody else for that matter, with permission from the original creator (in most cases:). A remake, by the creator only? - If he is not pleased with the original version.
I'm not sure on this topic guys, enlighten me.(with examples please:)

i think a remake could be where another artist doesnt have any of the original code to the song but can figure out the melodies or something, and then make their own sort of remix without actually having the original piece.

remake can also mean when the original artist takes the song and totally changes it around and updates it so it sounds very little like the original... maybe a really intense remix could be a remake? think about the cydonia remix of morphem's hypnotone.. i think they call that a remake dont they?

Remake (also called Cover version) is made without any of the original sounds, all the parts of the track are made new. in a remix the remixer uses the original sounds and changes them. for a remix you need the full agreement of the artist, for a remake you don't. (what is known as Atmos - Klein aber doctor (x dream rmx) is actually a remake by some german guy I keep forgeting his name.)

a remix doesnt have to onclude any of the original samples either...
in some styles of music, ie: pop, remixes will include the vocal parts...
in psytrance, where you dont get many vocal tracks, a remix could not include anything from the orginal track..
so in psytrance, its hard to fdefine. its basically whatever the producers involved want to call it,

but you could say a new version of track released under the original artists name is a remix...
if its under the remaker's name, then its a remake

that sounds like a good definition to me
