Why don't you just crack one off in the bogs ten minutes beforehand?

Oh my. I've tasted and chewed the word so much now, that it has lost all it's meaning and sense.

djing for the first couple times in front of a crowd can be very stressing, choosing tracks, beat matching, people disturbing, no beer left, no time to roll a spliff...

what helped me when i started out spinning a couple of years back, was to write a playlist of tracks to be played in the set... it doesn't need to be complete, maybe "compose" a nice musical story of 10 tracks and improvise after that. you can even practise this playlist at home before the party... trust me, you'll feel much more comfortable when it's time for the real deal.

Dhyana or Meditation. I feel this is very important!!! then self surrender and some sort of spiritual discipline and practice is necessary ................

Last saturday i was djing in my 1st party, i was very very nervous and the first part of the set was horrible. I have another party this saturday, with more people than the lastest. Please, how i can get relaxed before a set? No drugs plz. And sorry about my english, thnx a lot.

well..
first, sleep good the night befor then get your music arranged for your self in the mind then stop listhening to music like 4-3 houers befor your gig and drink some alcohol it will make u relaxed and more esy goning.

but the most importent thing u must remember is that u es a dj must be redy to pley et eny time theirfor you are redy for it.. so its more important that u will be not taierd and be fresh in your mind,if u will take care of that then u will be more relaxed then eny ather thing u will do.

cheers

Its a British phrase meaning to.. er.. pleasure yourself...

Anyway.. back on track.. one suggestion I'd heard to relax was to have a good dance before hand to

1. see what going on on the dancefloor
2. get rid of some adrenelin

I get lot less nervous now than I used to, but still takes me until about track 4 or 5 to relax a little...

I Think before anything else imo, u should really 'love' your music and what your about to play for that crowd who's journey totally depends on where YOU take it-- and by that yes i do mean actually intimately be involved with every track on your playlist!!

I was nervous before my first set and i wasnt on for another 3hrs when i got told that the DJ before me is having technical difficulties-- so your up next! I looked around at the party people and felt sick to my stomach thinking how am i gona keep these cosmic vibes alive!! --Played my first track n i had the dancefloor after that, i got so into it that nothing else mattered

So all the best!! And by the way supportive friends on the dancefloor really help as well           "If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace"

Apart from getting trashed, eat a couple of brownies, getting a blowjob, play with yourself, sleep and meditate I would say:

Practice the first 30 minutes of the set to death until you can do it blindfolded. This will bring some confidence as you get into the groove. The rest of the set play it by ear. I always have some kind of anxiety... It is not because I am nervous to play... I just want to play. Enjoy the ride, it is a unique opportunity so just focus and make it memorable for everyone.

well i disagree with some of you ... i think it's not so good to practise a set beforehand - because if the dj before you plays a track in that list u're fucked.

the best advice is imho to be rested before you play and dance to the dj before you. then you know what the crowd is like and what they want - so you just get the vibe from the audience, and the rest is like playing with the audience.

it works for me

edit: i'm playing for 1 1/2 years now and i'm every time nervous as shit... but as soon as the first tracks plays its all gone. just try to do some breathing techniques, they help a lot.

when you get up, look all the crowd in the eye and smile, and realize that if you were on the dancefloor you wont mind if the DJ is nervous, so no body else minds

also pack a little flashlight in case you need to see stuff in the dark
