can these two applications improve the performance of my cpu for audio, or can mess things up instead.

Both progs are good for ur system in general, so also can be improve ur audio performance.
This r two different progs for different purposes, spybot search and destroy is very useful if u are surfing with ur audio pc, it will 'search and destroy' unwanted software that installes automaticly while surfin.
Registry cleaner searches ur system registry for unused keys and entries, but u need always to enable backup funtion if u delete stuff from ur registry, coz sometimes this program identies important keys/entries as unused and will delete it. But if u have a backup this is no problem. Anyway it works very good and most time it regocnizes everything in the right way.
