Hi everyone,
I was wondering how do you go by registering your tracks.
Over the years I've heard alot of stories about people stealing tracks from each other and have been concerned about it.
I've heard that if you send a CD with your tracks to yourself trough a registered post letter and never open it its valid in court, I've done it but am not very safe or sure about this.
I've recently applyed to PRS but they never got back to me.
Im now registering with the Musicians Union (winch is very good but they take £13 per month).
But still I would like to know what works for you guys...
Thanks in advace. |

the registered post thing is true and legally accepted... However, keeping the project files is sufficient IMO.
It is hard to make a lot of money these days because of piracy in general and people dont stop either.... registering or copyrighting each and every track can be expensive in the long run.... if its a popular genre and the sales are huge, it may be worthwhile to register all lyrics, scores, melody and the like....

one simple thing is.... although you get the registered post thingi done... if someone steals ur tunes u will anyways have to spend a lot of money once the case goes to the court.... and i can assure you it will be well more than how much your track originally cost.... so no one will really take the pain to do tht.... coz it has a lot of legalities involved etc.
all you could do is... sell your tracks to decent/noen labels and dey usually send u an agreement for the sale of your track of which you keep the original or the copy...
it contains all the clauses for which you have agreed with the label for the release of your music...
also you can cosult your lawyer and get relevant information on a stamp paper which is duly attested from the court stating that the track belongs to you. but remember this has to be done in the first step before you even sell a track to a label.
hope it helps
if neone can enlighten more on this would be great....
