What is for you the best reference material as far as good quality production is concerned?

i'm listening to Vlastur - InteraxionDub on CD. the sound quality gives me goosebumbs.

nothing particular,so many sounds as possible from so many genres as possible and pieces of my taste.
Production quality aspect as brilliant production I like the sound of Liam Howlett (The Prodigy).

i know a lot of people including DJs that love Prodigy's sound.
i never gave it a really good listen. except for firestarter which was played a lot some years ago.

listen to the new album - good example would be Thunder.
Back than Out Of Space was also nice but today his sound is really crystalclear, punchy and dynamic.Loving it

ido ophir for minimal
mindcore - universal prophecy and digital talk - the ultimate reconstructed by absolum for full on
morning sound: domestic vs gms vs spacecat - ride to anjuna (i find this one have very good production ,pump a bit too much for my taste but i guess that track would work great on massive sound system)
i like the sound of these tracks... period

depends on the style of the tune, but stuff that tristan, dado, etnica, kox box and bamboo forest are involved with, are my references.

yes agree some of these old names have a more liquid and organic sound, production not super clean but less steril ,with more vibe(propably cause they don t use software only)

i still have to check on lot of the suggestions above..
i find it very useful to listen to some good material before i open my DAW, just to listen how these guys use the spectrum keeping in mind that is has been mastered. i don't think getting very close to such sound in mixing stage is possible.

I'm still really into OOOD "freerange" for comparing my kicks and basslines against.

Also commercial hippies "from beyond" album is pretty damn tight.

well, actually that is possible and the track needs to sound tight, dense and well-balanced right after mixing it. during mastering process the biggest audible change is loudness maximization; in most cases mix, levels, balance are not changed (and not intended to be changed).

Totally.

In the production and mixing stage you have far more influence over making everything sound great than the mastering engineer will.

There's plenty of released mastered music that still sounds like shit.

I find having mastered music to compare to is a great advantage because it makes me push myself that much further, rather than thinking "hmm... that low end isn't QUITE tight enough... but that other guy can sort that out.

I learnt so much by cutting a kick and bass only section of a nicely produced track and using analyzers to try and get as close to the same balance.
