Hi people, I have a subject that I need some advice with...
Reference in the car.
What audio system does you using?
- What firma do you using?
- Which speakers? With subwoofer or without subwoofer (?)
- External gear maybe?! (Eqing module, audio card)
- Etc'...
More over, what do you think about doing the reference process at your car? Good not good? It is an open subject here people! ;-)
And how many times you went go & back from the car back to the studio to fix the "problems" you found in your new track sound?
Keep the posting flowing...
Cheers,
Flakey.

Well, the main thing with referencing in your car is that you are used to how professional albums sound on your car system because you are probably in it a lot listening to music. So this way you know if your track sound right or not. That all there is to it. I don't think that you need to try and set up some sort of monitoring system for your car. That will just confuse things.

I guess that if you keep running from your studio to your car to check how your mixing "really" sounds, you need to update your studio. The car is maybe useful as an other reference, just like your headphones, your home-stereo, a friend's studio or a ghetto blaster, but it's surely not the holy grail of high fidelity.

i finish track i listen 1000 times at home
then burn it , listen in the car twice on the way to my friends with diffrent monitors , listen there , get some advise as well from them about general sound and buildup arrange etc. and sometimes there is little stuff to fix yes but usualy its all good
i have no idea what system in the car , its nice one hehe , i check with settings from bass -3 (out of 5) and high -2 throu all mixes up to +3 on each , to also get diffrent prespective with diffrent settings
another funny thing is simply to listen throu winamp stupid presets , u get variety of diffrent eq's which simulate nice diffrent systems of peaple home and car stereo (or mono lol , try to listen once in mono always as well...) www.sattelbattle.com

I'm using my original speakers which came with the car - surely if it sounds good in there, it'll sound good anywhere.
Problem is that I hear only 50% of the frequency range...

I was into speakers before I got into producing, I used to build them and install car audio too.
I spent a long time getting my car as audiophile perfect as possible and I use it as my reference for quite a lot of things, and I'm happy to take my tunes and go for a drive making notes. Its probably the system I know best second to my monitors.
My car equipment list
Diamond Hex 6.5" Front stage
DLS 7x10" Rear Fill
JL Audio 12W7 Subwoofer
JL 1000/1 Monoblock Amp
JL 450/4 Stereo Amp
(Plus spare battery, capacitor, several rolls of dynamat acoustic dampener so you can't hear the road or rattles when driving)
Despite the enormous subwoofer I never crank it up and kill my ears, or annoy the neighbours - the install won a few competitions in sound quality and that was the whole point - so I could enjoy music, not to impress the local kids.
It sounds good with all types of music, but it REALLY shows up the flaws in mine. If it doesn't work in the car, its back to the studio for more mixing.

This thing goes REALLY low..
