Rectifier distortion messes up the panning. How come?

I have this lovely bass sound coming from the Virus TI. It's got a rectifier distortion on it that gives it a nice gritty sound. But for some reason when I add the rectifier it messes up the panning! The left channel is 1-2 db higher in volume than the other. I have switched off all lfo's etc.

How is it possible that a distortion without panning option changes the panning?

Maybe your left channel was a bit louder to begin with but not noticeably so. Even 1-2 db is a very small difference...so the boost from the distortion causes the volume difference to be more apparent. Although I'd assume it would boost both channels at a fairly equal level so I'm not sure.

Just a guess. Even if that's not the case couldn't you just adjust the panning in your DAW/mixer to correct the problem?

Funny thing is that if I indeed correct the problem by adjusting the panning in cubase it sounds like it is panned in stead of in the middle.

Thanks for replying!

sounds like a phase to me. All in all, if you mix it down to mono. Its not going to matter.

if L and R are not different, and there's no real difference between a stereo and a mono outcome, I would take EtherealMotive's advice, and just make it a mono channel.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Try highpassing it - maybe the rectifer is adding 2dB of DC to one channel?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Havent high passed it yet. Although I have no idea what DC is I ll try it later. My pc isn't booting at the moment so i have more urgent problems...

It is a stereo vst on a stereo channel. Couldnt find any plugins yet to make it a mono midi channel. Guess i could bounce it to a mono channel. Will try that as well later.
