recording with an optical input question

I use a Creamware pulsar scope souncard with no exterior i/o box.
Yesterday when i first tried to record an optical signal from my dvd (not in the computer) i realized that the optical connection does not fit the socket on my soundcard, it is slightly bigger and wouldnt fit(incase your wondering....i took off all the plastic covers that are on the cable and the socket).
Are there different optical cables?
where can i get such a cable?
Or any other question i should of asked ......
Is my will of recording samples in 24bit 96khz a crime  .

I allways thought optical i/o are identical for all products... was I wrong all this time ?

there are two kind of conectors. One is the adat standard and the other is similar to a minijack.
