Hello all...

I´m looking for a microphone to record my own voice and add some effects and then put it in my tracks...

but I dont know how to make the connections , I have one Novation X Station Synth, should I connect the microphone in Input channel of Synth and record what I want in Sound forge or Wavelab for example...? I dont have any idea of how to do it =///

One more thing... what kind of microphone is good to do this stuff?

thanks guys!!

hi, you want to plug your mic into the XLR socket on the back of your X Station (located on the back, on the right as you face the back)

Then you should have access to a software mixer I would have thought, and the input level for that channel should be in there somewhere I would have thought! Don't have an X Station so can't be sure, but it will definitely need to plug into the XLR socket.

It is very difficult to recommend a mic, as they vary in price and purpose so much. From $10 to $1000 and beyond!

My personal suggestion would be a Rode NT1a - this is avery good all round mic, at a very reasonable price, considering the quality of the sound it reproduces. If at all possible though, I'd strongly suggest trying a few out to see what you think.           .

And if you use a condenser you need to switch on phantom power, not for dynamic mics though!

If you use a sequencer, like speakfreaka said, you must have monitor channels to wich you monitor your inputs, and then you record to an audio channel, setting the track to record ready and then hitting the rec button.

You can also record in anything like wavelab or soundforge, if you prefer

About mics, as Speakafreaka said, choices are endless and for every pocket.

Well, I know these are all very vague answers but maybe we can help more if you give more details (like what other uses you'd like to give to the mic, you budged, sequencer/tools you use, etc)

Good luck! Boomz!!

Shure SM58 is not too expensive and quite versatile, works well for both male & female vocals..If you take out the filter you can use it to record guitars & instruments too..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

well, I just got StudioProject C1 and its unbliveble mic, pick up evrything and sound so clear, also the C1 have build in filter(75hz&150hz) and thats great, the C1 sounds almost like U87 and thats a good thing ....anyway +1 for "cheep" Shure SM58+SM57, those Shure is a must...and if you got some $$$ I'd go for AKG C414 (gold ), I own it but the copsola doing me some problems so insted I got C1 for the moment...anyway its depend on what your looking for in mic, you also have tubes based mics, thay have nesty sound, I prefer clean recordings anyway...

cheers

Here's the deal, what excactly do you want to record how? For very loud sound I usually recommend a good dynamic microphone, if you are intent on bassy sounds use a dynamic ribbon mic, it will give you the best bass, clean and all. If you are intent on background use a stereo condenser mic, the Rode NT4 is an expensive and excellent solution for all of that, as well as spcific sounds, eg. animals, voices... you have the advantage that everything you record will be stereo. As far as your voice is concerned, if you have a bassy voice, definitely a ribbon , the AEA R92 has a nice deep bassy sound, but is a little light on the highs. If you look for a mic to record female voices I would probably choose a supercardoid mic, like the RE16 which reduces proximity effect greatly and also has a kind of internal pop protection. For voices I would generally prefer dynamic mics, yes, a condenser picks up a very transparent signal, however the feedbackissue can be nasty at times and you will pick up other unwanted sound as well. So if you insist on a condenser at least get something with a phasing protector, like the ME 66 from Sennheiser.
Good Mics cost a lot of money, however, if you look at the mic specification sheets, you can find out what frequencies get picked up best. a dynamic mic will last you a long time and often produces excellent results.
As far as input into any devices is concerned, always XLR connectors, wherever availlable. Make sure the cable is not too long~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

SM57 and 58 are good microphones, but I personally wouldnt use them for vocals unless it was for live purposes(because they are so hard to break)....

I would recommend a Rode NT1a as speakafreak said, but make sure you have some way of giving it phantom power..
im not sure if u can with the xstation....
Maybe even the NT2a but that is a bit more advanced allowing you to change the cardioid(directional) pattern of that mic, this is a very nice microphone for its price and it will last long...           [[[G|L|I|T|C|H]]]

Hey Glitch, I just checked out the NT2A, far out stuff man. And very low self noise as well. At the same time a very high dynamic range. I think I'm going to get one.
