Does anyone knows how can I record any dvd audio via optical cable??? I´m using Cubase.

I tried to connect the input to all ADAT´s ins. No sound from monitoring... I already checked at sc setup, and chose the ADAT for optical out and in...

A friend of mine said that maybe the optical out of dvd player is not compatible with the soundcard. Can be???

Thanks

I just route optical cable from dvd to sc and tried to at least moitoring the audio via Cubase. But I can´t do it! I tried all ADAT´s ins on Cubase and no sound...

afaik, adat audio = 8.1, adat dvd = 5.1
--> go over s/pdif or coax

bom bom           experiment !

adat is a protocol (a way of communicating).,
so is spdif.,

spdif (what your dvd will be sending) = hifi = 1 stereo channel over optical or coax
adat = pro = 8 separate channels of audio over optical or coax

adat and spdif are not compatible!!

see if your dvd has a COAX spdif output.
then you can connect it to the MOTU's coax spdif input.,.,

Hummm... Well ZilDoggo, my dvd has both outputs... Optical and COAX. So maybe yes, I need to connect this cable, not the optical...

I will try this!

Thanks!

heh.,., it should.,.,

keep in mind that you need to use a special coax cable and not anormal audio cable., otherwise there propably will be errors in the stream (clicks)
also dont forget to select the spdif input in cubase as the signal will propably not show up on the normal inputs.., (but i dont know the motu so you're on your own).,

you will also have to keep in mind that there is a chance that the dvd out will generate some form of 5.1 encoded on a stereo pair (something like dolby surround)., then your motu will propably be unable to decode it and you will hear a form of distortion., try to set your dvd player to output stereo only.,

or, alternatively, i think there are plugins that can decode this kind of signal., or maybe cubase does it on it's own.,., sot sure here, but expect some problems
