Of course that a good microphone will give you better results, but I guess that a headset will work fine as well.

Actually it all depends on, what kind of processing you're going to do with the recording afterwards.

If it's a vocal track you're doing, and you're only going to add a bit of reverb and delay, then you should use a good microphone. The Røde NT-1 is recomendable. Very good quality and not that expensive.

If you're going to put a lot of effects on your voice: distortion, flanger, heavy reverb (i'm sure you get the picture), you good do fine with a headset. Actually I'd prefer a headset anytime, if I'd process my voice through a vocoder.

Cheers mate,
Lars

ok first thank u very much for your opinion.
the reason why i want to make it by headset is, because its cheap i dont want to spend hundreds on a high quality condenser that i will probably use only once in lifetime. but now after your post mindfly i experience some problems....because the voice should be clear. not too much effects...only some delay, reverb and flanger. so...i'm thinking of buying one like u recommended...

The voice should indeed be clear.

The first demo we did in the old band I played in (synth popped depeche modish-style (and let's never talk about that again ), we did with a cheap Shure mic. - the vocals sounded very dull/flat.
For the second demo we used the Røde NT-1; remarkable change in sound of the vocals, everything was so much clearer.

I'd like to hear about your choice of mic. and experience with your recordings.

Cheers mate,
Lars

Similar experiences here - R0DE NT2 produces vocal results simply 100 times better than the old Shure SM58s do... especially when routed into a nice focusrite voicemaster, hehe

Still, if its spoken word stuff, not beautiful singing, the 58 will be fine - and its £80 instead of £260, and its a lot harder to damage!           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/
