I have a DSI Poly Evolver slaved to Cubase (internal) MIDI clock and I am able to draw MIDI notes in Cubase's MIDI editor and my hardware synth will respond accordingly.
I have always had timing issues with arp patterns or sequencer patterns containg two or more simultaneous notes - the pattern "drops off" and doesn't play properly after the first or second looped pass. I don't know if this is an internal clock issue (using an EMU 1616) or a Cubase problem (using the last 3.1.? version before V4). I've never been able to figure out why this happens. My workaround has been to bounce the track to audio and then loop the clip, but this has some limitations also.
So when i try to export my MIDI clip playing the hardware, I get a cubase message saying "EXTERNAL PLUG-INS USED. AUDIO MIXDOWN WILL BE DONE IN REALTIME"
Then the sequence plays and records at the same time, but when the track is imported to the pool and the project, it contains no audio.
Can anyone help me? Greets.

If it contains no audio, it means no audio was recorded. Do you actually see the waveform during recording? If yes, ignore the rest i say.
Check your connections(the output of the hard synth goes where?(mixer, soundcard etc.) and what goes into the inputs of the soundcard). If all these are correct, check your soundcard's recording options and Cubase's as well. Don't forget to check also in the Win Control Panel > Sounds if you have set your soundcard as the default recording device.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

have you tried routing the midi to a audio channel and activate the monitor button so it picks up the sound and then just record to the audio channel straight away?
thats how i do it.
