or use a soundcard with optical inputs.
u may need a component style md player tho to output optical data.
never seen a portable one that can do this. (which doesnt mean they dont exist)

there is no way to get sound digitaly out FROM a minidisc, for sure.
minidisc can input digital, but can output analog only, since then you will allways loose some quality, also concider, that MD itself got his compression factor.
still, with few tweaks on the volume buttons and the EQ you can improove a bit the sound that you want to record on your computer, then open the wav in your sound editor and try to get the best out of it (use some noise reduction options or EQ) before you compress it again (mp3). goodluck.

the component style minidisk players (the ones about the size of a double cassette deck),
have digital/optical outputs.
they're worth investing in if u use an md regularly for sampling etc.
can sometimes find cheap deals for the component and a portable in one package.
