So I got introduced into this style through Mood Deluxe years ago. Decided to look into it more recently and out of everything I've heard from this style so far (which is admittedly not that much), I definitely click with Hedflux the most. Who are some other producers that are along the same lines? I've heard some Kwah, LuQas, Bad Tango, Unconscious Mind(s), Snook, and it's been mostly hit-and-miss for me. Some of that stuff is pretty cool, but most of it is too funky/fluffy for my taste.
I'm looking for something a bit darker and more psy-ish and less nu-school-ish.
Here are a couple of recent Hedflux tunes from his Soundcloud that demonstrate the kind of style I like:

Collin, those 2 tracks are kind of on the border of what I would consider too funky. Which is totally OOOD style, so it's not unexpected. They are cool for what they are, but not exactly what I'm looking for.
Though I dig this remix Hedflux did of one of your tunes:
And also dug that remix of Hedflux you did with Kleesh.
I would be curious to hear what Mr. Nectarios has to say on the subject. I remember reading in some random thread that he disliked the term 'psybreaks'. But whatever you want to call it, I'm surprised not to hear any tracks like that from him, seeing as how he used to make breaks back in the day.

too funky? there's no such thing as too funky!
yeah, i don't have a good way to describe what i mean by that. it's pretty subjective and i'm sure it only makes sense in my head. you can be groovy without being funky. it's like when i'm out at some loft party and a dj is spinning house. not my favorite genre, but i can get down to some flavors of it. and so the record the dj is spinning starts out pretty groovy. there's a phat kick. a basic bass line. some shakers and claps. and it's all chugging along nicely in it's minimal groove. but then the producer needs to get funky. so here comes some fucking diva whaling some obtuse phrase at the top of her lungs over and over again. but of course that's never enough. so here comes the fucking saxophone...
i listened to some bigmistake. i hear a heavy complextro influence in a lot of the tracks. there were a couple of tunes that i dug. same with kiwa. i really liked their older style and always thought they were pretty unique. but what they are doing now, even if i can appreciate the skill and inventiveness from intellectual point of view, i'm just not really feeling it. it's just too damn "funky".
what's the difference between those hedflux tunes i posted and something like this:
again, it's these complextro/glitch-hop kind of elements that i call 'funky'. it's the happy upbeat club-party kind of vibe. again, nothing wrong with that. but i just prefer some groovy and hypnotic shit instead.

@Outolintu love me some Tipper. though I prefer his more downtempo stuff (like 'Broken Soul Jamboree'). and anything Felix does (terrafractyl/hypnagog/mental extensions) is gold. but i wouldn't reach for either when i'm in 'psybreaks' mood.
missed both mindex and ra-djan releases somehow and they both sound awesome (particularly ra-djan). mostly off-topic. but awesome nevertheless, so cheers for that.
@PoM i'd classify that Sibilant track as d'n'b. still, i like it a lot. need to check out Sibilant, never heard of him before. reminds me of older TeeBee style, which I adore.
