Hello,

I am in search of headphones for mixing down my music(all genres of electronic music). Using monitors isn't such a good idea because of the neighbours(as always).

Budget is not a problem including also an amplifier if needed.

I wonder if there is such a thing like neutral, accurate and detailed headphones. I don't want them to have a "nice" or "sweet" sound or to be "audiophile". I just want them to be as real as possible and the mixes made to them to translate well.

So far i'm considering the AKG K701, Sennheiser HD650(both high-end) and Beyerdynamic DT-990 PRO(less than half of the price of the other two).

If you know anything about these headphones on studio use or any other that you would recommend, please enlighten me.

Thank you all,
Alex.

I love my Sennheiser HD 25 SP. They do the work when I put them on.

Check also AKG 271, and search a little bit here inside the forum.
Take some cds with good sound that you know, go to the store and listen with your desirable headphones.

BTW its way better to mix with your monitors and not headphones my friend, dont kill your ears, besided headphones dont give the exact bass sounds as monitors can.

^^
Well i disagree with a nice headphone amp the headphones will give you a much wider frequency response than monitors but its still hard if not impossible to mix with them..

I have Beyerdynamic DT770 pro & would really recommend them!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Well my Beyerdynamic DT990 sounds almost like my Mackies hr824. But just for late night work, not for mastering your tracks.

Hey..please forget this idea at all !!!! There are no headphone (with no exceptions) capable of giving you a flat result as a good pair of monitors for you to mix or master a track.
The most important job a monitor set does is to show you the truth behind your mix. For that heappen it may sound exactly as the sound you re actually producing. Any headphones willl Colour your mix, and will fool you, sometimes it will sound better(or worse) than the mix really is, and you will never be able to work your track's full range frequencies properly.
But in case you re only wanna buy headphones to work at night without bothering your neighbohoors, I ll list the best options available :

Sennheiser hd 650 (great sound, very confortable but not noise canceling)
Sony 7509 (great sound, strongly built and noise canceling)
AKG 701 (great sound, strongly built and noise canceling)
Grado 325i and it s superiors (really great sound, it s your ear's size - so some won t like it)
Beyerdynamic dt 990 (really cool sound, wears perfect)
Obviously you will need a pair headphones cause we all do have one. Good luck,
