Yeah I'm not a fan of sample packs besides percussion - and on that note, the Penton Essential drums are just ridiculously good. When I started out I was obsessed with sample packs; downloaded everyone I could get my grubby hands on.

But then I'd just smack tons of samples in there and I realized that I wasn't really learning anything other than how to drag and drop samples. It's one thing if you use the samples as base building blocks and build something unrecognizable from the source material...but most of the time I would put the stuff in there largely untouched becuase it was fully realized already.

I get more creative bang for my buck programming my own stabs, hits, lifts etc - as a lot of the time I come across something completely unexpected. Can't say I've had that experience with samples.

It may take longer to program yourself, but imo you learn more and the results are more unique.

Sure you have a point... but i said i used both... it is just that i don't have that much time to produce, but hey i do record a lot of my own fx with hardware and softwares and i recreate a lot of the samples i like... remember my chord post i spent a day recreating a chord sample i liked and learned gold at the same time. Also create more for my own library.

Some atmospheres, ambiences, drones and so i don't have a clue how they make, so many layers and modulations... i like to use them as backgrounds sometimes... i recommend the East West samples they are very very good.
