Which one of those two sequencers do you think is the best one to start off learning for a total newbie like me? |

I would also advise to start of with i.e Cubase or logic .
These programs might be a bit more advanced to start of with , but the results will be better in the end .
Of course there are some ppl who can manage to produce proffessional sounding tracks on reason ( and other programs like fruity ) .But normally this is a result of having practiced for many many many years .
I dont have to say twice ,that it is a matter of development , u have to aknowledge ur own needs and skills , and find the programs that can cover these needs and skills . The case is just that some programs have more options and posibillities ( i.e cubase or logic), and will be able to cover ur needs for a longer time than other programs .
Ofcourse theres is always an issue of money , i.e cubase and logic are more expensive than i.e reason and fruity . U have to find out , all of these things , needs, skills , money
Hope it helped u a tad

If you have enough money for Cubase SX or Logic i would start with those right away. Ask someone with experience to show you how it works so you will have a flying start. Reason is very nice, but after about 1 or 2 years you will need the extra options that aren't available in Reason. Switching from Reason to a more professional sequencer can be really annoying, believe me...
May the groove be with you,

I know my way around Reason and Cubase pretty well, but I still can't figure out the environment in Logic. I would say that unless you have some help from someone to get you started with Logic, then go for Cubase. In Reason you can do some very groovy things very quickly, that can be a pain to do in other sequencers. The fact you can manipulate rex files (grooves chopped in Recycle) so easily and use tham in a variety of ways quickly helps the creative process a lot. Many people dismiss Reason as a toy, but for what you get it's good value and I find it very useful although I would never produce tunes in Reason without the aid of the plug-ins I have in Cubase and the better sound of it too. It's good for starting tunes but not great at finishing them imo.
Go and have a play in your local music store and see what you think.

reason is more recent and more complete as all-in-one package, while cubase is more midi oriented, if you own synth or pianos run cubase and something like gigasampler to get real sound ! |

eh? Cubase SX is just as recent as Reason 2.5. Cubase is not just midi oriented either, you can't record audio into Reason directly like you can in Cubase. Using it just to synch midi is not using it to its full potential.
Das Fung, you would be surprised at the level of some tunes produced in Reason and then mixed afterwards in Logic or Cubase. (Check out: Rawthang - Epilogue, if you don't believe me, that is meant to be produced in Reason). The Prodigy also use Reason and they're not bad eh?
