Reason CPU Load

I know there aren't many reason users, but I have a question for the few that are out there as well as anybody that has experimented.

When using a routed LFO(from maalstrom) to change the setting of a fader or something similar the fader physically moves the entire time the project is open and EATS up my CPU. This becomes a problem as I get into my track and things start to become complex. Does anyone know of a way to decrease the load or kill it completely? Is my only option to turn off my LFOs by automating the on/off button?

Hi Spycht
Why don't you use a standard automation for the faders?
The LFO is synced to the tempo and where is in free mode it repeat the cycle at a certain frequency
To reduce the cpu usage you may use some "spider audio" to spit a single LFO in multiple if you use the same setting (you can reverse too with this device) or ,if you use maltsorm for the LFO
only , open a NN19 witch is less cpu-hungry

If I do get a lot of CPU load , i actually bypass some the effects in the reason environment to reduce the CPU load and once I am satisfied I enable the effects again. The other option is to solo the channel on which you are working the automation.

But you have to keep the track of effects you are disabling as you have to reenable them once you have to export as mp3.           "We surely know by some nameless instinct more about our futures than we think we know."

Thank you both for your help. You've definitely pulled me outside of the box I was stuck in.

I never though of using one LFO with a spider c/v unit that is a fantastic idea. The reason I don't use standard automation is because it's difficult to get many of the clean shapes like a curve or sine and it's nice to have an extra s&h around. As for using the NN19.. I used to then I realized how many more choices the maalstrom has. I still use it on occasion if the shape that I'm looking for is there.

I will try bypassing effects when they're not in use and see if that helps. Soloing the channel only decreases the load to a certain point because the LFOs are still affecting the parameters on the synth/sampler/mixer in the rack.

Hi spycht
I totally reckon than malstorm has different shapes and more choices than other devices, it's a crazy powerful device.
For drawing good automation curves&shapes try to change the snap value , e.g. if u want a curve set 1/8 snap then draw with the line tool, for fine adjustements keep the line tool and set to 1/16 ,when you have it once ,you can copy on the entire track by selecting the area u drawed and hold the Alt (or crtl in win) key
just like any lfo (but less cpu hungry, I think)
Cheers

I'd actually been automating things like that, but one day I listened really closely and could tell the difference. As far as I see it, that difference will only be made more obvious when the music is played on a large system, so I figured I would just get in the habit of doing it the clean way regardless of whether what I'm making will end up going that far or not.

I ended up trying to automate everything to turn off when it wasn't in use but for some reason it made absolutely no difference so.. I gave up and split my project into 4 files leads, builds, noises, and drum/bass.

Now I've got all my audio in Live thanks to an hour or so of bouncing through rewire. Now it's just a matter of keeping the appropriate reason file open with Live to work on the piece I need. It's a pain, but definitely better than having the project skip and computer threaten to crash on me every time I hit a decently sized fill. It is also easier to adjust the volume. I've always had trouble getting good results with the Reason mixers.

That spider c/v idea is really coming in handy. Particularly the ability to reverse it in an instant. I really wish they would just add a simple LFO module though.. Also can't wait for the arpeggiator and new synth..

Thank you PsyGalaXy
Your help is much appreciated!
