hey everyone, i dont know if any of you out there have had the same problem with me.. but on reason, i've been havin problems with my bassline.. i made a bassline from a usual "sine" and just added a filter to it and set it lower so it sounds more down and bassy.. but the problem is, its one of those running trance basslines.. and while tha bassline is playing, it kinda loses its "solidness" so to say.. it doesnt keep its bassiness all tha way through, it kind of loses it then comes back and its sounds really frustrating.. and dont know how to solve it.. even bought a new sound card but stil didnt change anythin.. i aded compression, but still no good.. help me pleez!!! anybody.. if u have an explanation, pleez in lamens terms.. because i'm pretty stoopid.. hehehe and stoned! please help someone..!!! |

Try using a saw wave instead as it contains harmonics. A sine wave has only one frequency... |

shroomy!
every sound wave has harmonics, the
basic building blocks of a wave, is a fundamental freqúency and whole multipals
of it wich art harmonics. (although a sine has
one tone...) a saw wave will be built from
even and odd harmonics added to a sine wave wich there number is ther inverse of there amplitude,
anyway try to compress your bass with
waves or any other good compressor...

no sorry orik!
shroomy is right.
a sine wave is made of just one frequency that's it.
if you filter a sine wave it will have no effect until the cutt off frequency reaches the frequency of the sine, then it will just go quieter.
perhaps you have a an lfo modulating the filter which could be why the volume of the bassline keeps dipping up and down.....
otherwise try using a saw wave, like shroomy said.

Are you using two oscillators...? Maybe there is a phase difference which is creating that problem.
Otherwise check the LFO modulation as effel said.

i'm using tha subtractor synth on reason. its difficult to explain wat tha bassline does.. but it does sort of phase off sometimes.. its just not stable.. compression doesnt help.. eqing dont do much either.. i dont know wat it could be.. |

you're using one oscilator? Because 2 oscilators are more likely to phase.

Well, make a pure saw wave. You can do that, right? Then give it filter envelope and stuff

ok well, i was runing on one octave, and a saw wave, and i checked for anything modulating and found nothin.. turned each and every knob up and down.. and found nothin.. i knw its right under my noise but just cant figure it out... is there nobody who's had the same problem in reason? anyway, i wanted to display a screen shot of my rack so u guyz could see exactly which knobs were turned and wateva.. but yea, i realized we couldnt display pics on the forum.. oh well.. i'm seriously stuck.. if anyone has any ideas lemme know... thanx |

hey dando,
i think i know what your talking about i used the subtractor for bass a couple of times even though i would recomend a bass vst instrument, some of them sound a lot better .
anyway there are some things you have to check in order to make a clean saw out of the subtractor.
1. make sure all lfo are down to zero (time\amount) also check in the velocity
2.on the modulation envelope all the adsr nobes are down .
3.on the oscilators the red light(on\off) of the second osc is turned off.
4. the most important is the phase you have to make sure the phase is turned off their are three
types of phase make sure the bottom one is lighted a ciricle not a - or the X.
5.the adsr of the fillter and the envelope try to play with them when only the decay is on while the other are off this depends on your bass line
it might not work for you
if you do all this and their is still a problem then its
not the confige of the subtractor its something else. |
