oni,
i used to use Reason bigtime...
and i occasionally still use it because the first synth i ever learned to use was subtraktor.
you can use maelstrom synth to generate formant (vowel) sounds. pretty good for psy.
there is a lot you can do with maelstrom actually.
i've never got a good psy bassline out of reason though so i normally rewire it to ableton or logic and make my bassline/kick there. it might be possible to get a decent bass sound. maybe freeflow is right about Thor.
but the subtraktor is good for that 'stretchy plastic' kind of sound.
just take a saw in subtraktor and use the envelopes/lfos to modulate the filter (on bandpass), and the pitch (more heavily). then you have the classic skreachy sound.
but seriously... i spent weeks trying to get a bassline out of subtraktor... FUTILE.. lol... the filters or something just isnt good enough.
but i got close when i used osc 1 as a saw, and osc 2 as sine; adjust amp envelopes so there is barely any sustain, and very little decay (this is where the problem is, i think filter just isnt fast enough).
even kicks dont come out that well with subtraktor.
but hey... if you make some decent headway let me know... i'd like to hear what kind of tricks you discovered.

| I have a bit problems with sub-tractor as well, and the "Sub bass-ish thing" in psytrance that comes after the kick (which i use the redrum for)
but thanks for your advices, i'll let you know when i make it <3 |

I have a great bass that created with subtractor, I'll try to get it uploaded to let everyone check it out.
I dont use it anymore it is just to cpu heavy to keep the synth going the whole time.
Its all about samples man I'm telling you.
If you want the ES-1 samples I have...
I'll just add them to the RAR with the Reason file I upload.

All this talk about reason and baselines made me create alot of nice stuff.. ill post some snippets! and some Thor presets soon...
It would be interesting in comparing those ES1 samples to the Thor...
Thor is starting to become a favorite of mine(in many aspects of sounds)and it would be cool to have as a Vst.. but i kind of like to work in different hosts and export wavs.. im not too fond of rewire, but with Rebirth its nice to rewire into cubase...
anyway its lovely to tweak sounds!

So i could not find that Subtractor bassline I used to have but here is a quick example of the way I use the ES-1 samples.
I also have a nice kick in there for a reference...

This is just for a quick example, obviously their still needs a lot of work put into that but it sounds prity good just with a quick eq and what not.
Enjoy!

personally i wont give up untill i get the right sound in reason.
it IS hard, but when i cant afford buying some program/keyboards/dongles atm, its no use in downloading cubase/logic and so on.
so yeah XD
everything is possible with a program as complicated as reason |

Reason 4 is great but the only way I've found to get a proper polished sound out of it is to never use it's built-in mixer, and to ReWire all the sounds out to Cubase and mix it there.

I have rewire'd Reason and Cubase 1 time coz I was told by a label to extract the track there instead of Reason before I sent it in for mastering... but I don't remember if the sound got any better and since there's different people doing the mastering almost every time I can't really compare that track vs a track that is just extracted from Reason and then mastered...
Guess I have to rewire it again and see if there's any difference... think it was back in 2007 I did this and by that time I didn't have any monitors and was making the tunes in some shitty computer speakers
..So thanks for the reminder! =)
Cheers

I rewire my Reason instruments into Cubase as well...
The reason file I sent in the pack was just set up like that for easy listening.
I do not do any sequencing for Reason in Cubase though...
I did not realize that you could do that. I would save a bunch of time and stop having to go back and forth and use Reason more like a plug in...nice!
Thanx for the info Colin.

The sound probably won't get any better if you're only rewiring the stero outputs, as you'll still be using the Reason mixer to mix the track. If you have our album Fourthought, check out Durka Durka and Hornrider, those are both generated 90% out of Reason, rewired into Cubase.

Hehe.. oki oki man =) I don't have much knowledge about these things, that's why I only work in Reason... enough of things to keep in mind there!
Most things that people are writing here is like another language for me.. :S
I just visited this thread to see who's working with this software since not many people I "know" use it =(
Nope.. I don't have it. I'm "addicted" to movies so all my money goes to buy DVD's instead of Cd's... I don't even download music so haven't heard it... I mostly get enough of my own and my friends music =)
