I'm sure people post things like this all the time, but I haven't really been able to find the answer I've been looking for in replies, and if there have been responses if someone could redirect me that'd be great as well.
So I have a Powerbook G4, and I have been working with electronica using Reason 3.0 and a microkorg as my controller. I have taken an interest in creating some psytrance and i am having trouble getting clarity and vivid sounds from reason. People have recommended using other programs with reason in other posts I have read, but I am extremely fund limited (cubase & logic are way out of the picture).
I've been tweaking parameters to get decent sounds for kicks and some of those spacey trancey sounds, but all in all I have been relatively disappointed with my efforts. I want to ask if anyone has any psytrance songs they made in reason I could hear? to see its potential, and to see if the sound I desire is possible from reason.
and also I can set money aside for Cubase SE, but I want to make sure it will be worth the purchase since it is much more limited than cubase 4.
So I'm just looking for some friendly advice and whatnot. I mean I feel if I'm patient with reason I may be able to get those sounds I desire, but I just want to make sure before I invest all my efforts to no avail. Thanks!

Search a bit on some reason pages like reasonfreaks and reasonstation and u can find many reason song files with psytrance and some of those are good indeed.. Anyways for me Reason is closed DAW and thats its only fault.. U could rewire it with cubase and rebirth but still.. I would go for Cubase SX and buying legitimate version isnt best possible option so u wont have to spend any money..
I wanna know too in which way is Cub SX3 more limited compared to Cub 4..

Hello
I have been using reason 3 for sometime now.The truth is no software is good or bad.Its basically how you use it.The more you use it the more you get good at it.
Reason 3 is a good program for goa/psy trance and you can make some clean sounds with it.If you want to learn from some .rns files, i will suggest downloading some tracks from www.reasonstation.net in .rns format. This will show you some reason power and you can start getting hang of things.
Cubase is a also gr8 software.I will recommend using reason 1st.Once you get good at it and have enough budget, you can shift to cubase.
You can rewire reason with cubase. This way you dont have to give it up(tip given to me by Get-a-Fix):-)

I started with reason, then used reason+cubase for a while. At that time, I opted for cubase sl3, due to budget issues, and found it had what I wanted, so I would suggest looking at both of the current versions on the steinberg site to see if you need to fork out all the money for cubase4, or just get studio (you can always upgrade later). After a while, I found I didn't want to rewire with reason, and started using only cubase.
I did find though, that I missed the nnxt...... and I didn't like a lot of the vst samplers that soooo many people seem to love....... and (after trying out FL for a short minute) was starting to want something different in the way of workflow. So, I started to search other options.
I ended up switching from cubase to Orion Platinum, and am very happy with it. The sampler works for what I need it for, and the bundled synths are pretty cool. It supports VST, and if you really need to go back to reason for anything, you can rewire. There are a lot of psy artists who produce (or have produced) with this program.

to answer your question about using only reason....... reason music, sounds like reason music to me. Not that it's bad, it just has a certain sound to it IMO. Some people are happy with what they get out of it, but some find they need more flexability.
You can here my psy music here, just as an example of what I've gotten from Orion so far:

also, I'm working on a non-trance related project with a friend of mine, and we have a song called "Somebody Stop Me" posted on her page. It also was made with Orion:
