sound engine = the piece of software that creates and or manipulates sound data (usually in real time)
any software synth has a sound engine,.
so does any digital mixer,.
so basically you can say that anything that does something with audio has to have an audio engine.,
people usually use this word to describe the whole path the audio takes through the applicaion., including any calculations done to it.,
plugins have their own little engine that deals with data.,
and Reason, altho it is very efficient, has a certain way of dealing with the data that gives it its 'character' ., problem is that you cannot swith this off, it's there forever, and it has some pro's and some serious cons in certain situations.,
so thats why people are a bit sceptical about the 'quality' of Reason 3.
i, for instance, could not make a decent mix in reason alone,
first, before any mastering, you need to be able to set up a freaking good mix., i cant do that in reason.,
so it does not even matter if they have 'mastering tools' because the level a which you work in reason is NOT the right place for mastering anyway imo.,
so it's kind of dubious why they put them in in the first place., a new good mixer would be a better thing IMO.,
and from a different perspective, i want a tool to do something REALY GOOD and not do everything just a little bit .,
this would all not be as bas as it is but you cant change anything about reason, you have a fixed palette of tools and cannot escape their weak points when you need to.,
anyway, dont want to bash it completely, there is still a lot of fun to be had with reason., its just not a complete production thing for me.,
greets,.

Hi ppl!
I guess Reason is a F.T.C.M. FANTASTIC TOOL to CREATE music. And that´s it. You build your ideas, and take them to your producer (namely a person or a dude called cubase), using Hi tech stuff. Obviously you can do it directly in SX, but... reason is a good, pretty, and cheap solution for those who want a wide collection of strings, drums, "virtual analog toys", loop and sampling shit. Do I make my point?

I used reason v1 and v2.5 for about 3 years but i won't even look at it now i use logic 5.5 and loads of plugins and i am so happy with my setup! Logic and it's plugins are higher quality in my opinion why move back when you can move forward!

Yes, Ganjagil, nothing more to say, I am trying Logic 5.2 for couple of months now and it just sounds right.
Reason is a great idea - its amazing interface, that all in one, feeling home modullarity, but probably 1.5 windows is not enough for pro sounding results.
In the perfect world the Reason would sound like Logic, but we are stil here and waiting ...
