in lemurians - sacred darkness at 1:06 and forward the breakbeat comes in and it feels like its panning like this:
" Left to right ("from behind"), then right to left (at front)"
heh maybe its just me who hear it weird
but what u think?

Do you have surround sound?
Is it recorded in surround?

If not, then the effect is probably just using a combination of pan and reverb wet level. The wetter a sound is, the more background it seems. So their fx were probably:

Wet-pan-L to wet pan-R, wet to dry, and then pan R to pan-L. Have SX with automation? Give it a try. It can be done with nothing more than an inserted reverb, and SX write and read automation on a single track. Cool effect. WHOOOOOOOSH!!!!!

Could have also been Waves Doppler.

Could also be a surround panner.
You sync it to the bpm - the signal will 'rotate around' your head.

it's based on different signal delays in each channel.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Or try the ulrafunk surround R3 wich is a great surround vst - perfect for creating sound paths - It really stuns you on a surround system            Peace, Love, Death metal
