if you want a tick bass use a tick sounding synth, simple as that

if you use crappy sources that need lot of eq and processing it will sound processed and less natural than a good source with almost no processing ,always use synths that get you the closest to the sound you are after.

Well, i'm used to using alien303, so i tried using other bass samples, but still they're not sounding thick enough, i noticed that if i play the bass on A, it sounds too high pitched, i lower it down an octave and teh opposite happens

dunno about alien 303 but you can make usable good bass out of any synths.. but still the one that need the less processing are what are the best to me...it s what can separate the bass that sound ok it does the trick to the bass that sound great and natural cause it havent been thought a 10 plugins chains to make the sound usable ,just light processing to make waht sound good even better...
from the options i know in software using something with analog oscillator like trilian ,trilogy... will make it easier to archive the tickness/depth some digital synth lack...u-he ace and specially diva sound tick to me, esm but need more processing, thats the few i m thinking right now ,with diva beeing the best option unless you get a moog or some other analog synths that make good bass

m i think for nice thick bass first u need nice kick, in key with bass note, and the bass needs to be eq'ed properly, and thats it,, u can also do compression and other processing to get the particular sound u lookin for, but this track sounds the ay it does is because the individual kick/bass channel has been mastered, all sounds have been mastered,eq'ed properly before final mixing. thats what i think, time consuming, proper way of doin it
and alien 303 is kindo not so warm, maybe u should try somethign like trilogy, the sounds r warmer

I'd love to know how the bass is rhythmically done. Is that a basic K-BB K-BB pattern?

the track has a nice swing.
too much reverb going on. it's blurs the bass..
the old steinberg cs40 can do cool basses, with better envelopes.

It sure sounds like it.
Or there could also be a 3rd bassnote with lower velocity before 2 main notes, which make it glue together a bit more.
There's also a decent amount of shuffle added.

What speakers are you using?
A7s here and this bass sounds lovely. Punchy right the fuck through the mids (I assume that's what you were going for) but still enough low end, without any mud below ~250hz.
This is actually awesome.
And for those who were asking about the pattern, it's KBBB either with a very low velocity first bass note, or more likely KBBB with a slower-releasing side chain compressor to the kick. Think protonica styles in the more proggy world, or if you want psytrance, a lot of Southwild's tracks these days use this kind of groove. It's a pretty cool way to get the proggy "pump" while still keeping the steady 16th note danceability.

its not that complicated. just use a 66% or 88% swing and a bit velocity

fat kick is necessary for fat bass, and the two must be complimentary, so:
Do you guys usually create the kick then design the bass to fit or design the kick for the bass?
