I have an SH-101. Its not very modern sounding but imo thats not a bad thing. It sounds good. Might not be good at fast 16th note basss, unless you sample it, but why would you want to make the same bassline as anyone else anyway?
dtd talked about free-running oscillators. I think most people today might find it anoying but it does ad some life. I have made an mp3 to show you how it sounds like:

AvS: yes you're right, it definitely adds some life, it's great to have free running oscs.

Yeah but as you know it can also be a bad thing. Especially for bass. Its not really a problem with the 101 because its only got one osc but if you use 2 osc synths you get constructive and destructive interference at different placess on each note so some notes will be fat and some thin. Its not always a problem though.
Would be kickass to have an analog where you can set the wave to start at the same point on each note-on event. For some reason this has never been done! Might not be possible or maybe its just because it kinda goes against the whole idea about analog synths. |

jep, it can be a pain in the *%! for bass sounds
that's the cool thing with digital synthesis, you can choose between simulated "free running" oscs and the sample accurate triggered waveforms (e.g. on the virus synth with phaseinit)

^^^I use a Waldorf Pulse too. They can be picked up for really cheap these days. Can't remember off the top of my head if it has (analog) VCOs but it definately has a lovely VCF. I sample that puppy. |

The Pulse has got DCO's. Not shure what kind of dco's. To day the confusion about DCO is pretty big. Many use the term DCO to describe a 100% digital osc, wich imo is not a dco. The term also covers real analog osc that a controlled by a digital clock like Juno 106. This is a real DCO. |

Pulse's OSC are real analog, but controlled by a digital clock as AvS said.
They are analog and they sound analog. Filter is analog too.
