There is no short way in reactor. Start with vaz modular first to understand what a modular synt is, or elektra. |

Reactor (if you know how to use it and have the patience) is the best soft modular synth around. Btw reactor 3.0 is out for a while and you can use it in vst as a synth or fx. I myself know very litlle about it because I'm a lazy bastard. |

u don't have to synthesize from scratch unless u'r a techie freak. use presets, and tweak them. in Reaktor they're called "ensembles", just go to the file menu, and load ensemble.
after u get hold of what's going on, try creating your own synths.
VAZ Modular is very alike, but it has a more simplified interface, and isn't a VSTi (but u can sequence in it, and use VST/DX plugs) try it too.

I always thought Generator/Transformator/Reaktor was pretty self explanatory if you know the basics of synthesis.. the elements and macros are pretty low-level as far as synthesis is concerned... they are pure building blocks..
as far as the original question goes.. yeah 2.0? (you mean 2.3?) is a good sound quality.. but if you have a PIII or higher CPU.. Reaktor 3 take a HUGE advantage of the instruction sets of those CPUs.. No advantage for Athlons yet, but you should be good enough in your performance if you have an Athlon 800+..
And for some asking questions.. quite a few of the ensembles frommm Reaktor require MIDI data.. if you do not send it, you will hear nothing.. |

Reaktor 2.0 is not the way to go when there's Reaktor 3 out there!
it's my most Sound Producing prog I use ever! it's not that difficult - and you can leave VAZ aside.
now cSound is difficult! but I ain't saying it' s not possible. just work around with the presets and try to think of new things while learning the easy-to-go interface...
