bass maximizer can be great, but they can also be a very very bad thing...
i say use this in the later stage of the creation, like most smearing, cause it can really mess up your mix... your ears gets used to ultra phat bass, and if you use it with headphones you can be way out of line...
first it should sound good on monitors, then it should sound good in headphones..
boosts are dangerous, do it with care, subtle is often best... remember that bass energies eats headroom like a lion, if you want a loud mix you better go easy on it..
a little side note:
There is nothing more exciting when the bass is deep and pumping, especially on the dancefloor..and it just pulls you into the groove... umm, but if its too heavy and it kills the groove..

Just get a good enuff bass sound, without the "artificial" boosting u do with Maxxbass & stuff...
It never helped me |

true too much bass ruins dancing. but still i consider them essential just try to export and compare to other tracks frequently... because you get used to it as new era said. |

Hey mate:)
i wouldnt call them essential, only good tools when some bass smearing will do good.
You dont have to use them on baselines only.

hey... so many portuguese producers here
had to post tooo
i cant get good results RBASS.
i've gotten nice results with MAXBASS, but only if i EQ a lot after it
btw, max bass and those plugins have one problem for me:
I like bass that can be heard and felt
with those plugins the lower ranges bets a bit boomy and when correcting it, it loses it feel
for me maxbass is great for the new wave of psy where evrey bass is hp filtered for maximum DBs, but it looses the thumping feel that i search for in my basslines and that i think psy trance must have, either matinal, dark, progressive or whatever...
no good bottom end makes makes tracks sound too plastic
off course is all a question of taste
only one recomendation: be sure that you have very good monitoring when dealing with the sub bass side of things, ok ?

  roll a joint or STFU :) |

i used to always use the maxbass/rbass and in hindsight prolly a bit too much.
sure, it has an instant wow factor....put one of those beauties on and there you have it >one big fat meaty bline.....or is it???
put one of these things on a sinewave then look at the waveform so you can see what is happening to ur sound.
i think my mixes have become a lot more balanced since i stopped using it...bringing out the meatiness with good eq/comp/limit is a much better way of doing things IMO.
