It's great. Use it once (for samples, not to run the softwares) and you'll never go back to normal 7200rpm HDDs.
It is little bit louder than standard HDD but I never found it disturbing.

Actually I was thinking of using it as a main hard drive for OS and aplicattions and using IBM 250 gigs that I currently have for storage.. So this would be bad? Than its not for me.. Why is it bad for apps?

It's not that it is bad for apps. not at all. I've used it for running the C drive (with the windows and everything) and was extremely pleased with the speediness of the whole OS. but then I read somewhere in SoundOnSound that audio softwares use the RAM and CPU much more than physical hard drive once they're up and running, but samples / long audio files etc. are still being read from the hard drive, therefore it makes sense to use the faster hard drive for audio files. BUT - if you're aiming for faster software upload time (includes of windows startup and even installations) then use the Raptor as main hard drive.

Yeah thats what I want.. To load cubase with bunch of vsts in no time.. And Ill have sample on that drive also.. Im just wondering will 74gigs be enough for that? I plan to use other 250 gigs drive for storage of music, movies, backup like I said earlier..
I know RAM is most important but windows will be much faster anyway.. But could you somehow dig up that article on sound on sound?

I'd be interested in the article as well.
I just picked up 3 raptor drives (1 74 GB, and 2 36 GB I'm going to use in a raid 0 format). I've been wondering how I might want to set it up, and was leaning towards what you recommended- fastest drive for the audio/project files, 2nd fastest for OS , and slowest for data archving/backup.

Just buy a external shell without a harddrive mounted, and insert a raptor into it.

I would suggest looking for a external drive case with an Oxford chipset for USB/Firewire....they tend to provide better performance.
