Hey folks!
I just bought an extra ddr 512mb 400mhz.
I have now 2 ddr512mb 400mhz in my motherboard(a7n8x-x).
My question is:
With this 1Gb of memory, i still get cpu overload problems. When i turn on the computer, in the scren says that my memory frequenci is working at 200mhz, at single mode. Is this correct or am i doing something wrong? Because my DDRs are 400mhz.. so why in the screen says that it is working on 200mhz? Is this normal?
I bought this a7n8x-7 motherboard but i later regreed.. i should hv bought the deluxe version, that has dual channel.. Does it make a big difference in the performance?
Thank u fellows |

at your mainboard you have 4 slots for ram live the first ram in the first one and put the second ram module on the third slot this way will work on dual channel
is a bit faster but dont expect miracles
and 200mhz is the normal if it was 400mhz that would realy be a serius overclocking!!!

r u sure? i think it is supposed to be at 4oomhz.
Hes definitely right about dual channel though. Look in ur mobo book. Usualyl for dual channel its the first and third slots. |

no no.
What u have is a FSB Speed of 800mhz.
Therefore u have 2 chips of RAM (400 each) running in Dual.
Then u are using the whole 800 FSB.
Also depends on your CPU. That is your muscle....the RAM is your adrenaline.
The more Adrenaline...the more it helps the muscles power increase.
A Celeron CPU has an onboard cache of 128kb.....where the Pentium 4 has 512 or 1Mb usually.
So make sure you using Pentium 4....or AMD.
But u say the motherboard only does 200?
U sure.....may be a jumper setting on your motherboard.
Get a new one....they VERY cheap at the moment.
here in SA....i can get a new one....perfect for you...
R450....South Africa Rands.
Must be similar in your country.

well.. 3 luna dsp worth much more cpu then extra ddr. and cpu is more about the processor then the ram for all those think 2 gb realy needed. i never passed the 718 ram usage ddr1,with the luna or m-audio cards i used,in time of 5 years it seems inough,i figure its not the ram who make the computer better,i still think 1 gb is very recomended.

dual channel may add like 3-4 percent to your performance - nothing of great significance. btw, all motherboards from that series apart from a7n8x-x support dual channel - are you sure your doesn't support this?
your ddrs are stated as 400 mhz because it is ddr, which means they can read or write twice in the same cycle, but the real memory frequency is still 200 mhz, so everything should be ok. btw, if you get cpu overload problems, no memory will help you there. only a faster cpu.

I'm don't quite understand what ddr means but 1GB of ddr is quite enough for music production since Cubase never uses more than one GB while 1GB of ddr is actually 2GB of memory.

wtf?!? look, if you don't know anything about this, you better be quiet. ddr means double data rate - two operations in one cycle. this is the reason why they state memory which works on 200 mhz as 400 mhz ddr. cubase can use a lot more than 1 gb, it depends on the samples you use in your productions. and 1 gb of memory is 1 gb of memory, wheter it is ddr, rambus, single data rate, or whatever.

For CPU, CPU isn't memory only it is a calculation between all your system resources while memory and processor power are main factors. New processor should improove your lags as well as better sound card (pref. with DSP).

i don't have a clue what you wanted to say with the first sentence in this paragraph. cpu makes calculations, it is not a calculation.

1gb is what you should be running with your P4....
That, a Strong CPU....and NICE Audio Device.
U will not have problems....unless you using the system for other things. Not just production.

no cpu is ever strong enough for music
try putting 2 arturia minimoogs, and 5 zetas at 5 ms latency on any audio interface, now that's a test

speaking of 5 Zetas, I tried just that yesterday with my new DAW and my pc started popping and clicking. Not good. Is this expected with an Athlon 3500+ Venice with ASUS A8V mobo?? |

cpu overload where ??
cubase or logic ?
but why you ask for RAM when having cpu problems ?
i can only say i have 512mb and 1400@1580
and it still works good for me. i have logic audio btw. it sometimes throws out some error messages, just don´t care about them...
but i don´t use that much soft synths since i still have some hardware, so i don´t need so much processing power i guess
what is "zeta" btw ?
