ok guys just a small doubt ....
are plug ins like r bass or max bass actually a multi band compressor ?
or is there any other way that the low ends get a boost without compression ?
can any one shed more light / info ?
thanks ...

R Bass as far as I am aware of is not a compressor... it only enhances the bass not necessarily increasing the low end though.
Low ends can get a boost without compression. proper equalization of the bass and the kick can get you a phat result. Getting a higher freq on the CLICKS of the kick and gating / side chaining the sub end of the kick can make wonders. Almost like a virtual boost to the bass itself.
There may be other techniques used, but this is what I follow

quote from another topic about rbass, not mine
Quote:
| these plugins are actually adding harmonics (not lower octave) to the original sounds. it makes the subbass sound louder on soundsystems that cannot play the lower octave.
(you might have some issues with monitoring if you seem to think that it's adding lower octave. the lower octave is probably there even without the plugin, but you cannot hear it well, but with the harmonics added by rbass, our brain tells us that we hear the fundamental tone, even if there are *only* its harmonics in reality and the fundamental is missing in the sound |
