In Waves Compressors, is the attack the time it takes for the compression to begin, OR is it how much attack to give to the compressor. In other words:
A. Higher Attack = Faster Compression or
B. Higher Attacker = Slower Compression?

its confusing cause diff products do it differently.

nolightatend: That depends of the signal. If the entire 7ms signal is above the threshold, you have 1 ms of attack, then 6ms of compression and then another 6ms of release.

if it takes more time to attack (start) the compression then it's slower. this is the general.

i guess i didnt explain well enough. I know how compressors work. My question is, does a "higher" or "bigger" attack setting in Waves mean LONGER time period before the compressor starts acting (meaning a slower compressed of the signal), OR does it mean a faster attack, as in, the compressor acts immediately. In some programs, when the knob is all the way to the right, it means a higher attack, meaning it acts right away. But in some programs it means how long it takes for the attack to begin, which means slower reaction to the signal.

just check in the manual =P or even better, test it ou on material.

on all the compressors i've seen yet, attack is measured in miliseconds, so higher values mean slower attack.

if more attack means faster compressor reaction, then how the values look like on that attack knob?

just the opposite?

what matters is not which side the knob turns to, right or left, what matters is the value of the attack knob. if it's 5ms then it's 5ms attack. period.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

OH so the attack is the actual value in ms. I see. I guess I was confused becuase in my sidechained bassline with the Waves C1, a higher attack made the bass much stronger. But I guess thats simply because the compressor was so slow, the full bass was playing without being compressed by the kick.
Thanks, dumb question.
