I know that there is 592893485908345 threts about monitors here already, but I need a quick answer to a speciffic question.
I have to chose between alesis M1 Active Mk II and ESI nEAR 06. What would you reccoment for psytrance? the price is not an issue.

Blind Logic!
I vote for Alesis since ESI doesn't mean nothing to me as monitor or/and sound card developer.

Experience!
I think you should listen to both of these monitors and to decide on which you will like to work more. That's it. The one who tells you else don't know shit just want to say something!

I would (on the paper) actually choose the M1, since their frequency range goes from 38Hz, where the nEAR starts at 55Hz which I find a little too high for my taste. I think that in psytrance it could have some relevance since subbasses are in many cases important, and they usually do their magic in the lower end of the scale around 50hz (correct me if I'm wrong)

But my advice would be to listen to both and let your ear choose...           *In AjmaGard We Trust*

I use the Alesis myself, so I can only say something about those ... they work great for psytrance           ________________________

go for the samson rubicons r5a they are the best 5inch ive heard so far for the price

and i listen to a bunch of 5-6 inch monitors for my laptop set up and they where the more detailed of all exept the yamahas and m-audios bx5 they where pretty much the same thing

alesis are very nice aswell !!

near6 are rubbish no good sound
but to answer to willy wonka about the soundcards they are great for the money you give and dont forget that esi is a part of ego sys and dont tell me that ego sys is a bad audio interface manufacturer!!!

MSP5 and R5a are totaly different monitors imho. They not even close to same sound and mix clearness. Get MSP5 if you can, probably the best choise you can make per small money amount for 5' monitor! M-Audio i don't like, they are not detailed as MSP5 but Brittish national television use them, so some like them!
Once again we reach the point of personal taste! So check in store!
